93 Miles: Lamoille Valley Rail Trail
From the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail website:
When completed, the new LVRT will be an unparalleled experience, spanning the breadth of Vermont from St. Johnsbury to Swanton, and crossing eighteen communities along the route. Nearly 100 miles long, the LVRT will be the longest rail trail in New England, offering spectacular vistas and local hospitality and services for hikers, bikers, equestrians, snowmobilers, snowshoers, dog mushers and cross-country skiers and a host of other users and organizations.
Only two short sections have been completed to date. The larger project is in a legal limbo.

Rail-trail committees create two-town plan
TOWNSEND -- After five years of hard work, members of the rail-trail funding study committees from Townsend and Groton have come up with a plan to build a nearly 4-mile recreational trail for a minimal cost to the towns.
Salisbury, Georgetown, Boxford and Newbury Trail extension design gets green light
Selectmen recently took the next step in completing the town's recreation trail network and connecting the existing rail trail system from Mudnock Road and the Salisbury Point Ghost Trail at Lions Park to the New Hampshire border.
Selectmen voted to allow Town Manager Neil Harrington to sign a memorandum of understanding with the state Department of Transportation, which would start the design process for the project.
The new project would bring the trail across Route 1 via a new pedestrian bridge and link it to Salisbury Elementary School and Route 286, Selectman Jerry Klima said. He said the project will allow children to ride their bikes or walk from school to Lions Park or the Boys and Girls Club without having to share the roads with vehicles.

On a hot June weekend I had a few hours to spend with my kids in New York City. When our boat returned from the Liberty Tour to the Circle Line pier, we decided to rent bikes and ride the Hudson Park trail. The kids had noticed the very busy bike trail earlier in the day when we visted the river front a few blocks further South in Chelsey, and they really wanted to try it out. So I rented two bikes at the place right in front of the Circle Line, one for myself and one for my son, and a trailer attachment for my daughter. She can ride a two-wheeler, but the trail is so busy that I did not want her to be on her own.
