A possible rail trail through Wayland?
The League of Women Voters of Wayland will be hosting the forum "Converting the Rail to a Trail" on Thursday, Oct. 22 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Town Building.
The proposed MassCentral Rail Trail is 104-plus miles of natural beauty and historical interest, connecting Boston through to MetroWest (including Wayland), to central Mass. and finally to the Connecticut River Valley at Northampton.
Craig Della Penna, coordinator for the MassCentral Rail Trail Coalition (MCRT); Colleen Abrams, president of Wachusett Greenways; Dick Williamson, Sudbury representative to Bruce Freeman Rail Trail; and Larry Kiernan, Wayland representative to MCRT, will present the short- and long-term plans for the MCRT and share success stories of already completed phases in our neighboring towns to the north.
Imagine a safe, linear park for people of all ages and physical abilities to appreciate nature and our state’s unique mix of cosmopolitan and rural communities.
The MCRT will connect town centers, athletic fields, schools, conservation land, rivers, ponds and more. Walk, bike, skate or ski across town or across the state – without the noise or danger of sharing the path with cars and trucks.
