May Meeting of the Friends of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail and the Mass. Central Rail Trail Coalition

Event Date:
Thu, 05/27/2010 - 7:00pm
Event Location:
Goodnow Library, 21 Concord Rd. Sudbury, MA. 500 feet north of Route 20

The former 104-mile Mass. Central Rail line from Boston to Northampton crosses the 25-mile rail line from Framingham to Lowell at a spot in Sudbury just north of Route 20 and close to the Goodnow Library. Portions of both unused rail beds have been converted into rail trails, the east-west Mass. Central Rail Trail (MCRT) and the north-south Bruce Freeman Rail Trail. When completed, these two rail trails will create the longest rail-trail network in Massachusetts. This meeting will focus on the MCRT where the exciting news is that the ink is almost dry on a lease of the 25-mile MBTA rail bed (Waltham to Berlin) to the Department of Conservation and Recreation for the construction of a rail trail. A DCR spokesperson will kick off the meeting followed by updates from most of the communities from Somerville to Northampton.
